The Grand Causeway, located on Pashvi, was a walkway, at least some sections of which were sheltered by a stone ceiling. During the time the Galactic Empire held power (the reign), Tryphon Leo, a smuggler, explored the causeway in search of the Shrove of the Left-Handed God Typhojem. This shrove held a hidden treasure vault, buried by the pirate Queen Maz Kanata.
Leo—who had gained knowledge of the hidden treasure from a book that would eventually be called the Smuggler's Guide—met his death roughly seventy meters into the causeway. A sizable piece of rock detached from the ceiling, crushing him before a Typhojem Thrall. Later, Reginald Danfillo, a senior terrain trekker, discovered the smuggler's remains during the Typhojem Excavation and retrieved the Smuggler's Guide from the body.
Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, a reference book from 2018 penned by Daniel Wallace which featured illustrations of the causeway by Adrián Rodriguez, introduced the Grand Causeway to the audience.
