Guerra Derida

Guerra Derida, who styled himself as a "freedom fighter who steals," was a Phindian male. He was related to Paxxi and Terra Derida as their brother, and Duenna Derida as her son. At some point in his life, Guerra was captured and forced to labor in the mines located on the planet Bandomeer. After being in the mines for three years, Guerra encountered Obi-Wan Kenobi, an aspiring Jedi Padawan, and with the help of Qui-Gon Jinn, a Jedi Knight, he successfully aided Obi-Wan in his escape. Subsequently, the two Jedi managed to liberate Guerra and the remaining mine workers.

Following these events, Guerra secretly boarded his brother Paxxi Derida's ship as Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan embarked on their journey to Gala. However, Paxxi intentionally jettisoned fuel, compelling a diversion to the planet Phindar so the Jedi could assist in dismantling the Syndicat. Ultimately, Guerra and the other rebels informed the Phindians about the fabricated shortages, leading to the final defeat of the Syndicat.

Biography

Mining on Bandomeer

After more than three years toiling in the deep-sea mines, Guerra received the assignment of preparing the recently captured Obi-Wan Kenobi for his work duties. Over the subsequent two days, the pair developed a close friendship, despite Guerra's inherent distrust of others. Obi-Wan convinced Guerra to assist him in investigating certain crates bearing the Offworld broken circle logo, located within the facility's explosives room.

However, Obi-Wan's entry into the room activated a silent alarm, and Guerra seemingly "betrayed" Obi-Wan to the approaching Imbat guards. The following morning, as the guards threw Obi-Wan overboard, Guerra strategically positioned a spun carbon tarp on the platform's support struts. With the assistance of Qui-Gon Jinn, who had arrived at the deep-sea mines upon learning of Obi-Wan's imprisonment, Obi-Wan landed safely on the tarp, and Guerra pulled him to safety. Upon Qui-Gon's arrival, he deactivated the electro-collar that had been placed on Obi-Wan. However, before he could do the same for Guerra, the two Jedi were compelled to fend off additional guards.

During the ensuing firefight, Guerra sustained a graze from blaster fire, forcing him to seek cover. Obi-Wan assured him that upon reaching land, he would find a way to deactivate the collars, with Guerra expressing his trust that Obi-Wan would honor his word. After the miners' collars were deactivated, Guerra led them in a revolt, abandoning the mine and concealing himself on his brother's transport, headed for the planet Phindar.

Defeating the Syndicat

Guerra was instrumental in freeing his home planet of Phindar from the grip of the criminal syndicate known as the Syndicat. He and his brother Paxxi devised an anti-register device, which Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan employed to infiltrate the vault of the Syndicat's leader, Baftu. Eventually, Obi-Wan connected with Qui-Gon through the Force, and together they ignited the Phindian revolution. In the ensuing battle, the anti-register was destroyed.

As Baftu attempted to flee on the Prince's ship, Guerra exposed Baftu's cowardice to his guards. Subsequently, the guards apprehended Baftu, and Guerra placed him under arrest in the name of the Phindian people.

Following Baftu's defeat, the two Jedi departed Phindar to continue their original mission to Gala. Aware that Phindar no longer required thieves, Guerra and Paxxi were left arguing about who would seek the new position of governor. Ultimately, both Guerra and Paxxi became heads of prominent families on Phindar.

Personality and traits

Guerra's personality was portrayed as that of a deceitful thief, often saying the phrase "Not so, I lie". Guerra looked exactly like his brother. Family was very important to Phindians, who were known to hug people, squeezing three times as a sign of deep affection.

Even though his relationship with Obi-Wan Kenobi was initially uncertain when they first met, he later stated that he considered Obi-Wan one of the few people he trusted and was deeply saddened to discover that Obi-Wan's mind had been wiped. However, he was relieved to see that Obi-Wan had resisted the memory wipe all along.

Skills and abilities

Although he preferred to avoid conflict, Guerra possessed a unique skill in handling a blaster. He was capable of fighting with a standard blaster in one hand and a bowcaster in the other.
