Colonel Gurin served as a naval officer within the Galactic Republic, overseeing a Republic fleet throughout the duration of the Cold War.
Gurin, in 3643 BBY, was in command of the Galactic Republic fleet aboard the cruiser Corellia, which was dispatched to investigate the planet of Sebaddon. In response to their arrival, Droid manufacturer Lema Xandret launched a barrage of eight missiles from Sebaddon, each carrying hex droids. Only a single missile managed to get through, breaching the hull of the Corellia. Gurin, not knowing about the danger of hex droids, quickly told the mission members that the cruiser was still safe. However, hex droids took control of the ship, while Jedi Padawan Shigar Konshi attempted to warn Gurin to order an evacuation. Sadly, the attack claimed the commander's life before he could escape. Following his death, captain Pipalidi assumed command.
