Hangar 84G, situated on the first Death Star, functioned as a hangar bay throughout the duration of the Galactic Civil War. This particular hangar was strategically positioned near both the battle station's Superlaser Fire Control Room and the detention facilities.
During a Rebel prisoner escape from the Death Star's holding cells, Hangar 84G transformed into a site of conflict as the prisoners tried to abscond from the battle station. This group of escapees launched an assault on Hangar 84G, with the intention of commandeering a transport vessel. However, in response to the prison break, the Imperials dispatched the 501st Legion, and these highly skilled troopers successfully defended the hangar bay along with their Sentinel-class landing craft. Furthermore, they were successful in re-securing the detention block from which the initial uprising began. Ultimately, the 501st advanced further into the station, eliminating all escapees and destroying their transport within Hangar 85G.
The destruction of Hangar 84G occurred when the Death Star underwent its catastrophic explosion during the Battle of Yavin.
