Biography

Fleeing the Imperial Forces

Hemi, a Mon Calamari, was a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic's navy, specifically serving on the MC80A Home One Type Heavy Star Cruiser Republic under the command of General Jan Dodonna. In 1 ABY, the Republic, along with other cruisers, was docked at the rebel space station known as the Mako-Ta Space Docks for refitting with technology from the planet Shu-Torun. After the refit, the cruisers attempted to jump to hyperspace, but their [hyperdrives](/article/hyperdrive] failed. Unbeknownst to the rebels, the Shu-Torun people were secretly collaborating with the Galactic Empire, and their technology was designed to sabotage the cruisers.

During the subsequent Imperial assault, the rebel cruisers were unable to deploy their starfighters because the cargo bay doors were locked due to the Shu-Torun sabotage. The rebels learned that only codes from the flagship of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader, the Executor, could restore the ships' functionality. After a rebel team led by Princess Leia Organa successfully retrieved the codes, the Republic was reactivated and jumped to hyperspace. However, with the other ships still trapped at the space docks, Organa and rebel hero Luke Skywalker convinced General Dodonna to return and assist the remaining ships.

Return to the Space Docks and Demise

The Republic came back to the battle and served as a lure for the Executor. Dodonna instructed Hemi to focus all available firepower on Vader's flagship. Hemi then informed the general that Star Destroyers were closing in on their position. Dodonna then told Hemi to contact smuggler Han Solo and provide the codes to the remaining stranded rebel cruisers. Once the rebel starships were able to use the override codes to disable the Shu-Torun technology, Hemi informed Dodonna that while the remaining cruisers were now operational, the Republic's engines were too badly damaged to move.

Dodonna apologized to Hemi and thanked them for their service before ordering the fleet to disperse while the Republic, enduring significant damage, would cover their retreat. Shortly afterward, Hemi reported that all cruisers were ready, and General Dodonna repeated his order for them to depart. The Mon Calamari informed General Dodonna that the Alliance Fleet had escaped but also that the Republic's shields were failing. The general then leaned back in his seat and expressed his pride in everyone he had fought alongside, including Hemi. The Republic was then destroyed, resulting in the death of both Dodonna and Hemi.

Personality and Characteristics

Hemi possessed [gray](/article/color] skin and blue [eyes](/article/eye]. They were dutiful, following General Dodonna's commands and willing to sacrifice themself with the Republic to ensure the Rebel Alliance Fleet's safety. Before the ship's destruction, Dodonna expressed his pride in Hemi and all his comrades.

Hemi made their debut in the fifty-fifth issue of the Star Wars comic series from 2015. The issue was penned by Kieron Gillen, with illustrations by Salvador Larroca, and was released by Marvel Comics on October 3, 2018.
