Commander Hess'irolia'nuruodo, who is also referred to by her core name Irolia, was a Chiss female officer within the ranks of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet, serving the Chiss Ascendancy.
Back in 28 ABY, Irolia held command of a Chiss corvette. During that time, she intercepted the Jade Shadow as it carried out its mission in the Unknown Regions, and subsequently escorted the vessel to Csilla. Luke Skywalker perceived her to be around the same age as his niece, Jaina, who was then twenty years old, or perhaps even younger.
Irolia identified herself as an officer belonging to the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force. However, instead of the typical black jumpsuits worn by most CEDF officers, she sported a burgundy-and-black uniform. This particular color combination had previously only been observed among the Chiss warriors serving in Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx. Her uniform featured an insignia representing the Chiss Ascendancy. Furthermore, her vessel was accompanied by Nssis-class Clawcraft, a type of hybrid TIE-series starfighter that had previously only been seen in action alongside House Phalanx forces.
Hess'irolia'nuruodo made her debut appearance in the 2003 novel, The New Jedi Order: Force Heretic II: Refugee. This novel was the second installment in The New Jedi Order's Force Heretic trilogy, and it was authored by Sean Williams and Shane Dix. While Force Heretic II: Refugee described Commander Hess'irolia'nuruodo as wearing a burgundy-and-black uniform—a color scheme previously exclusive to the Chiss warriors of Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx—her depiction in The Essential Reader's Companion shows her wearing a Defense Fleet uniform featuring red piping along the arms, symbolizing the Red Flame ideal.
