The HummBike represented a model of speeder bike crafted by the Wookiees hailing from Kashyyyk. These vehicles served as scouting units both before and during the Clone Wars, as well as later in the Galactic Civil War. Wookiees, due to their considerable size, found most speeder bikes designed for other species of humanoids uncomfortable. Consequently, they engineered their own vehicles with more accommodating proportions, tailored for motorized infantry scouts. A distinguishing feature was the reclined pilot's chair, positioned offset from the main body of the speeder bike, unlike other speeder bike designs. A lever on the rider's left controlled the throttle, while directional controls and weaponry were operated with the right hand. For last-resort defense, the HummBike incorporated a weak, slow-firing blaster mounted on the forward maneuvering vane. However, mirroring other speeder bikes, the HummBike's minimal armor and limited weaponry rendered it ineffective in prolonged combat situations. Instead, its speed and maneuverability enabled riders to easily evade enemies, a tactic typically favored by riders.
The HummBike saw action between 39 BBY and 36 BBY, during the war fought over the colonization of the moon Alaris Prime between Wookiee colonists and the Trade Federation. Upon the suggestion of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, an advisor to the Wookiees, a mech factory was constructed at one of their bases, facilitating the assembly of two HummBikes. These speeders were intended to locate a Trade Federation outpost that manufactured B1-series battle droids. After scouting to the north of the base without finding any trace of the Trade Federation, Jinn deduced that the outpost was situated on the opposite bank of a nearby river. The two HummBike riders then boarded a repulsorcraft transport to cross the river. Upon disembarking, they successfully located the outpost, skillfully avoiding the battle droids stationed there. The intelligence gathered by the riders enabled the Wookiee leader Chewbacca to lead a force of Wookiee soldiers in an outpost attack.
