A device employed to facilitate faster-than-light travel for starships lacking an integrated hyperdrive was the hyperspace transport ring, which is also referred to as a hyperdrive ring, hyperdrive booster ring, or hyperspace docking ring.

During the long period of the Galactic Republic, many starfighters were not large enough to accommodate a hyperdrive safely. Therefore, these vessels needed to connect to a Hyperdrive Ring to traverse hyperspace. Typically, these rings were powered by a pair of reactors along with ion drives. The ring included hypermatter, which served as ballast for the starfighter connected during the jump to hyperspace. Some models could be outfitted with extra acceleration pods, which boosted both their sublight and supralight speeds. When a hyperspace jump concluded, the starfighter would detach from the booster ring, which would remain in space, awaiting the vessel's return.
Some considered this a weakness, since the destruction of the booster ring would leave the starfighter stranded. The Jedi Order's starfighters possessed adaptable long-range communication relays that enabled pilots to reach out to the Jedi Temple for support in such situations. Certain Jedi, such as Anakin Skywalker, altered their ships to house ultra-miniaturized hyperdrives. This eliminated the vulnerability, but it diminished the hyperdrive's range and performance.

The Hyperdrive Ring Technology was most noticeably used by the Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor, Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor, and the Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor. Rho-1 Limulus-class couriers also made use of them, and Koros Spaceworks interceptors utilized rings that were modified to suit their needs.
During the Clone Wars, the Syliure-31 long-range hyperdrive module and the Syliure-45 hyperdrive module were the two most prevalent hyperdrive ring variants. TransGalMeg Industries manufactured both, partially because of a profitable subcontract from Kuat Drive Yards, the company that constructed the Jedi Order's starfighters.
