Iain

Iain served within the Royal Security Forces of Naboo, a planet situated in the Mid Rim region of the galaxy, during the concluding decades of the Galactic Republic. By 32 BBY, Iain was actively participating in service when the droid armies belonging to the Trade Federation invaded Naboo. He sported a red combat helmet displaying his name inscribed in Futhork, the informal handwritten alphabet employed on Naboo.

Behind the scenes

Iain's helmet (with the name in Futhork)

A helmet bearing the name "Iain" in Futhork was displayed among diverse props within a gallery featured in Star Wars: Episode I Insider's Guide, an interactive CD-ROM created after the debut of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace in 1999. Nevertheless, the helmet's inscription remained uninterpreted for several years, as the Futhork alphabet's mapping was not officially disclosed until 2008 with the publication of The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.

Despite the Insider's Guide identifying the prop as a Royal Security Forces helmet, its design actually resembles an engineer's helmet—similar to that worn by Simon Jabesq. The character Iain shares a name with Iain McCaig, a conceptual designer who contributed to The Phantom Menace.

This article operates under the assumption that these Naboo helmets with markings correspond to the names of their wearers, following the example of Simon Jabesq, whose helmet reads "Simon" when utilizing the transliteration table from The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.
