Igear was a youthful male Human who was originally from the Undercity on the planet Taris. Serving as the primary salvager and trader for the Outcast village, he harbored intense jealousy towards Gendar's leadership role.
The specifics of Igear's past remain unclear; it's unknown whether he became an Outcast due to a crime or was born into the community. Regardless, Igear demonstrated a knack for negotiating with the swoop gangs residing in the Lower City, making him the main trader for the Outcast settlement. Outcasts would bring any valuable salvaged goods to Igear, who would trade them with the gangs in exchange for essential resources like food, medicine, or, on occasion, credits. However, Gendar's position fueled his envy, and he disagreed with Gendar's principles and vision. He once attempted to secretly hoard supplies, planning to distribute them when the village was most desperate, hoping to gain followers and ultimately overthrow Gendar. Gendar discovered his scheme and forced him to share the hidden resources. Although Gendar never fully trusted Igear afterward, he refrained from banishing him due to his valuable trading skills.
In the year 3956 BBY, Revan, a former Sith Lord suffering from amnesia, arrived at the village while searching for Mission Vao as part of a larger mission to rescue Bastila Shan. Revan likely made purchases from Igear, given the dangers of the Undercity. After Rukil tasked Revan with investigating the fate of Malya, his former apprentice, Revan discovered her lifeless body and returned to Rukil with her journal. Upon learning of his apprentice's demise, Rukil shared with Revan the history of the Tarisian Civil War and the legend of the Promised Land. Revan then agreed to Rukil's request to locate the missing journals of his father and grandfather, essential for completing the puzzle.
Igear overheard the exchange between Rukil and Revan. Unlike many in the Outcast village, Igear entertained the possibility that Rukil's stories held some truth. Consequently, he sought to prevent Rukil from uncovering the Land's location. Igear felt he enjoyed a relatively comfortable life as an Outcast. His role as a deal maker and shopkeeper made him indispensable to the villagers. He believed his power stemmed from the village's dependence on his services. If the Outcasts found the Promised Land, his services would become obsolete, reducing him to "another nobody." He offered Revan a significant sum of credits, a reward Rukil couldn't match, to give the clues to the Land's location to him instead of Rukil, so that they might be destroyed. Revan found the missing journals, but refused Igear's offer and instead gave them to Rukil, who then managed to find out the location of the Promised Land. Igear, along with the other Outcasts, left the Undercity village for the Promised Land.
Igear displayed a strong desire for food, medicine, and credits, a common characteristic among Outcasts. However, unlike others, Igear believed that the salvagers who provided him with salvage deserved nothing in return, justifying it with the claim that it was "his store, his profits." He also held the conviction that self-preservation was paramount. Igear's self-centeredness led him to believe that he, rather than Gendar, should be in charge of the village, a sentiment echoed by Carth Onasi, who remarked that the village would be in a far worse state without Gendar's leadership. This self-serving nature made Igear willing to jeopardize the village's hope for salvation simply to protect his own position.
Alternatively, Revan had the option to give the journals to Igear, who would then burn them, leaving the Outcasts without hope. If the journals had been destroyed, he would have rewarded Revan with 100 credits. Revan could have negotiated for a larger sum—200 credits—if his persuasion skills were strong enough.
According to the Knights of the Old Republic: Prima's Official Strategy Guide, Igear intended to sell the journals to the Black Vulkars. In the Xbox version of the game, Igear is depicted with a different face, featuring a lighter skin tone compared to his darker complexion in other versions.
