Imperial Research Station (Binaros)

An overview depicting the research station's layout. The Imperial Research Station represented an installation erected on the world of Binaros by the military forces under the command of Moff Kentor Sarne.

Architectural Design

This Research Station was assembled utilizing a series of modular, transportable units. These units were embedded within the hillside located behind the remnants of a temple. The sole access point known to exist was a turbolift, cleverly hidden within the temple ruins' crypt chamber.

Upon arrival, the turbolift opened into a sizable communications hub. This room was equipped with a trio of computer terminals and seating for nine individuals. Along the right-hand wall were a pair of doorways, leading to both the barracks and the officer accommodations. The barracks were configured to house a complement of eight personnel, featuring four standard Imperial beds positioned against each wall. The officer's quarters were further divided into two distinct rooms, each furnished with a bunk, a foldable chair, and a writing desk. Opposite the barracks and officer's quarters were the scientist's living spaces, containing six bunks and a dedicated computer terminal.

Positioned at the facility's rear were the biolab, the biotesting laboratory, and a general storage area. The biolab featured four central worktables, alongside four smaller, specialized labs built into the back wall. Each of these mini-labs was designed to maintain a unique climate, facilitating diverse experimentation. The biotesting lab served as a space for testing biological materials, with equipment brought in as needed depending on the experiment being conducted. The storeroom served as a multipurpose area for housing equipment and supplies.

Historical Context

Following the discovery of temple ruins on Binaros, Moff Sarne made the decision to establish a clandestine research installation on the planet, utilizing the temple as a means of concealment. The construction of the facility involved burying portable units within the hillside behind the temple structure. A landing zone, requiring regular clearing of plant life, was located approximately one hundred and seventy-five meters to the north-east of the temple ruins and served as a point of access for supply vessels.

This research station was used by Sarne to conduct tests involving various biological weapons.

Around 7 ABY, the facility was abandoned when Moff Sarne issued orders for his research teams to return to Kal'Shebbol. All computer systems were completely wiped, and a BlasTech T-21 light repeating blaster was strategically placed within the comm room, secured to a tripod. Linked to the turbolift door via a computer connection, the weapon was programmed to automatically fire upon the door's opening. The departing Imperials also left behind four Arakyd G-2RD Guard Droids within the biolab, along with MSE-X-PR6. A beacon was also deployed within the facility, intended to activate and transmit a signal to the nearest Imperial forces should the base be compromised.

During 8 ABY, the crew of the New Republic corvette FarStar stumbled upon the abandoned facility. After successfully gaining entry and overcoming the various traps and defensive droids, they salvaged any valuable materials before departing from the planet.
