Instinctive astrogation, a Force ability rooted in Sense, enabled its user to discover a swift and secure route through hyperspace without needing a navigation computer or an astromech droid. A Jedi employing this talent would use the Force to discern the safest route among the numerous possibilities. With enough experience, one could master this skill without formal instruction. Tron Nixx, the navigator for the pirate Drek Drednar, unknowingly Force-sensitive, developed this skill via practice, attributing it to mere exceptional fortune. Dena and Erling, the offspring of Jedi Knight Axton Tredway, were also skilled in this ability, as were Saesee Tiin and Kyp Durron.
Several alien species, such as the Siniteen, Lucent, and Givin, also possessed the capability to navigate without computers or the Force's assistance. The renowned star dragons could not only compute hyperspace jumps without a navicomputer, but they could also execute the jump without a spacecraft, as could the Oswaft.
A more intricate and specialized version, Instinctive Astrogation Control, existed. This was a Force power based on Control rather than Sense. Instead of sensing the correct path and associated equations, Jedi would use the Force to amplify their mental capacities, enabling them to mentally calculate the incredibly complex mathematical equations involved in hyperspace navigation.
