During the Galactic Civil War era, the Emperor Palpatine's Imperial Senate issued Intergalactic Passports. These paper documents granted unrestricted travel throughout the Galactic Empire's star systems. The passports contained extensive personal information, such as the bearer's full name, residential address, country, planet, system, galaxy, date and location of birth, physical measurements (height and weight), bloodtype, and hair and eye color. Also included was information regarding foreign exchange transactions, detailing the date of access, the amount of currency exchanged, and the financial institution that issued the currency. The document even specified the type of spacecraft the bearer was authorized to operate, its grade, and the planet where the authorization was legalized. Furthermore, it warned against using the passport in systems within the galaxy not under Imperial control. Unlike the similar Galactic Passport, the Intergalactic Passport was written entirely in High Galactic alphabet and permitted travel through the six primary galaxies.
Beyond just inter-galactic journeys, the passports were valid for travel to planets such as Hoth, Yavin 4, Tatooine (including Mos Eisley), Corellia, Rotkan, and Utapau.
In the period leading up to the Battle of Yavin, a comparable passport existed, authorized by the President of the Imperial Senate. It remains uncertain whether this intergalactic passport allowed for travel beyond the galaxy, though it did provide the holder with expedited access to various star systems and spaceports to a degree and at the very least allows travel from outside the galaxy to inside it. It was not a substitute for planetary passports issued on Earth and its various nation-states. It also forbade any unauthorized alterations and required details such as name, sex, birthplace, birthdate, passport issue date, home planet and galaxy (if the user was of extra-galactic origin), military rank (if applicable), indication of X-wing piloting status, the bearer's signature, and a photograph. The passport also stipulated adherence to section H467B-6 of the Galactic Code concerning regulations for interplanetary and interstellar travel. It further provided relevant information such as instructions for exchanging local currencies for Interstellar Credits at the StarBank main branch in Terminal 7 of Mos Eisley, Tatooine, medical advice for the Hoth asteroid field, Tatooine, and the planets of the Dagobah system. It also suggested that travelers near Imperial strongholds under the Emperor's direct control seek permission from the Commander of the Dantooine Base and maintain regular communication with the Base via established codes.
The passport contained an official statement referencing the "six primary galaxies." The meaning of this statement is not definitively known, but the Star Wars galaxy is known to have been orbited by seven satellite dwarf galaxies: the Rishi Maze, Firefist, and Companions Cresh through Grek.
