The J-1 shuttle, often referred to as the "Jedi shuttle" due to its employment by the New Jedi Order, functioned as a transport craft for personnel and light starship purposes around the year 130 ABY.

This shuttle was designed with an extended, two-person cockpit featuring a multi-layered canopy. The main structure incorporated two levels: the upper level provided passenger accommodations, while the lower one was utilized as either a cargo storage area or a hangar. However, because the hangar entrances were positioned on the shuttle's underside, a starfighter could only dock or undock while the shuttle was in flight.
J-1 shuttles came standard with both deflector shields and hyperdrives. The ship's sublight propulsion systems were integrated within its wings. Initially designed mainly to carry Jedi students, the majority of these shuttles were initially not armed. However, during the Sith–Imperial War, some were equipped with weapons and engaged in combat operations alongside X-83 TwinTail starfighters, which they carried in their docking bays.
The New Jedi Order originally commissioned the shuttle's design to facilitate student transportation between Coruscant and Ossus. At least one J-1 shuttle was stationed at the Jedi Academy on Ossus in 130 ABY. It played a role in the evacuation of younglings during the Massacre at Ossus, with Shado Vao at the controls. The unarmed shuttle was then pursued by Predator-class fighters, which led to Cade Skywalker launching a TwinTail from the docking bay to confront the pursuing ships. Cade's fighter was destroyed (though he survived), but his sacrifice gave the shuttle enough time to jump into hyperspace.
