"Jango's Grunts" served as the designation for a contingent of True Mandalorian soldiers who operated under the command of Jango Fett. Their assignment was during the mission to Korda Six, where they were tasked with extracting Kordan Defense Force personnel who were trapped within enemy territory. This infantry rearguard, known as "Jango's Grunts," received their moniker from the True Mandalorian Montross during the pre-mission briefing. Montross also assigned them the duty of safeguarding the Mandalorians' extraction zone, providing covering fire for other divisions of True Mandalorians.
Despite initial intelligence suggesting minimal opposition, the indigenous Kordans launched a substantial assault on the True Mandalorian mercenaries as they attempted their landing. Amidst the ensuing turmoil, Jango Fett and his grunts executed an impromptu advance toward the location of their intended targets, only to discover a trap set by the Death Watch, a dissident Mandalorian faction vehemently opposed to the True Mandalorians. Fett's unit successfully countered the ambush, eliminating several Death Watch soldiers with blasters and gauntlet-mounted flamethrowers. Subsequently, they moved to support their True Mandalorian comrades on the battlefield but were unable to reach their leader, Jaster Mereel, before he suffered a fatal wound inflicted by the Death Watch's own leader, Tor Vizsla. Upon Mereel's death, Fett was chosen as his successor to the position of leader of the Mandalorians, at which point "Jango's Grunts" were reintegrated into the broader ranks of the True Mandalorian forces.
The introduction of "Jango's grunts" to the Star Wars universe occurred in the second issue of the Jango Fett: Open Seasons comic book series, which was penned by Hayden Blackman and released on June 17, 2002.
