Jango Fett: Open Seasons 3

Jango Fett faced numerous challenges before rising to become the galaxy's most feared bounty hunter. His journey included the murder of his parents, joining a mercenary group operating outside the law, and ultimately, assuming leadership of the formidable Mandalorian warriors. Now, Jango finds himself in the service of a corrupt governor on Galidraan, a desolate world. Following accusations implicating Fett and his soldiers in a series of brutal killings, the Republic sends the Jedi, guardians of peace, to confront the Mandalorians. Unable to prove his innocence, Fett is compelled to fight for his freedom, facing a powerful adversary: the renowned Jedi Master, Count Dooku.

The Governor of Galidraan had been secretly harboring the Death Watch faction. Simultaneously, he was grappling with a rebellion from some of his colonists. Consequently, he contracted the True Mandalorians, led by Jango Fett, to suppress the insurgents, which they successfully accomplished. However, acting on the advice of Vizsla, the leader of the Death Watch, the governor also alerted the Jedi Council, falsely claiming that a Mandalorian group was assassinating "political activists." A Jedi contingent, under the command of Jedi Master Dooku and his apprentice Komari Vosa, was dispatched to the planet to address the Mandalorian threat. The ensuing conflict resulted in the near annihilation of the True Mandalorians present on Galidraan. Jango, the lone survivor, was consumed by rage and displayed extraordinary combat skills, eliminating numerous Jedi with his bare hands before ultimately surrendering. The Jedi then handed Jango over to the Galidraan government, where the governor arranged for him to be sold into slavery. The Death Watch emerged victorious.

The flashback sequence in this issue indicates that the events transpired 12 years prior to the Battle of Geonosis, equivalent to 34 BBY. However, later sources have revised this timeline. The New Essential Chronology places the event at 40 BBY. The Cestus Deception suggests a timeframe of approximately 43 BBY. Publications such as Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, The Official Star Wars Fact File, and Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide set the date at 44 BBY. Conversely, Star Wars: The Ultimate Visual Guide: Special Edition also places it at 44 BBY but also mentions "two years before the Battle of Naboo," implying 34 BBY. The Star Wars Annual 2008 presented two different dates for the battle (44 BBY and 41 BBY). Furthermore, an article on Antidar Williams, written by a fan for a What's The Story? competition, situates the battle several years after the Stark Hyperspace War of 44 BBY. The Essential Atlas reaffirms the 44 BBY date. Galaxy at War dates the conclusion of the war (and consequently, this battle) to 34 BBY, aligning with the original dating. This article adopts the 44 BBY date due to its prevalence in recent sources.
