John Powell, a British film composer born on September 18, 1963, created the musical score for the 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story. He currently serves as the primary composer for DreamWorks Animation.
Powell's early musical influences included 19th-century orchestral masters such as Brahms, Sibelius, and Tchaikovsky. Later, he discovered rock artists like Queen, Thin Lizzy, and Bruce Springsteen. His diverse musical palette further expanded to include artists such as Björk, Massive Attack, Sweet Honey in the Rock, and, relevant to his work on Solo, the Punch Brothers, Parno Graszt, and Childish Gambino's album "Awaken, My Love!". Notably, Childish Gambino is the stage name of Donald Glover, the actor who played Lando Calrissian in Solo.
The Solo: A Star Wars Story score was primarily recorded at Abbey Road Studios in 2018. The Enfys Nest theme incorporates the voices of a Bulgarian women's choir, Vanya Moneva, whose performance was captured in Sofia, Bulgaria during the same year.
