Jundland Banshee

The Jundland Banshee was a solitary Tusken Raider shrouded in mystery, who haunted the Jundland Wastes of the planet Tatooine. This particular Tusken Raider, operating entirely on their own, launched assaults on settlements located in and around the desolate wastes, thus establishing a reputation as a truly formidable warrior. The moniker "Jundland Banshee" stemmed from an eerie, chilling cry emitted during these attacks.

Biography

According to intelligence gathered by Rebel operatives stationed on the planet Tatooine, the Jundland Banshee was a Tusken Raider possibly cast out or abandoned by their own tribe. However, they still possessed their bantha mount, which was used to traverse the Tatooine Jundland Wastes. Acting independently, the Banshee launched an assault on a small settlement situated on the fringes of Motesta, a town nestled within the Jundland Wastes. The Banshee also spread terror among settlers along the Arnthout Pass. While these attacks typically involved the theft of food and supplies, one incident involved the destruction of a moisture farmer's Treadwell droids. Although the settler population was the sole target of these attacks, the Banshee was not popular with their fellow Sand People. On numerous occasions, the Banshee was observed engaging in direct combat with other Tusken Raiders. These tribes understood that the Banshee's actions could provoke a settler backlash, potentially leading to the massacre of Tusken Raiders, and they sought to neutralize the Banshee and prevent such a catastrophe.

Eventually, Rebel agents decided to target the Banshee. An eleven-member undercover team of Rebel operatives, known as the Sandwind Team, was operating covertly at a moisture farm in Motesta. The disruption caused by the Jundland Banshee threatened to draw an Imperial presence to the Jundland Wastes, thereby exposing the Sandwind Team. Given that the Sandwind Team was responsible for coordinating Rebel activities throughout the Arkanis sector, their discovery would severely compromise Rebel operations in the region. Consequently, the Rebels prioritized stopping the Jundland Banshee. The Sandwind Team's attempts to capture the Banshee proved fruitless. Two members of the Sandwind Team, Agents Carlio and Swanze, sighted the Jundland Banshee in Beggar's Canyon and Nomad Gulch, but were unable to capture them, and the Tusken Raider ended up destroying several comm emplacements used by the Sandwind operatives.

Due to the Sandwind Team's failure to neutralize the Jundland Banshee, Alliance operative Tay Vanis proposed that other Rebels should attempt to stop the Banshee. To avoid attracting Imperial attention, Vanis suggested that any Rebels pursuing the Tusken Raider should disguise themselves as bounty hunters hired by the disgruntled moisture farmers.

Personality and traits

The Jundland Banshee was a brutal individual notorious for attacking settlers on Tatooine. The reasons behind these attacks remained unclear, as they were known to attack even members of their own species. However, Alliance operatives had speculated that the Banshee had likely been exiled from their tribe. During their attacks, the Banshee emitted a terrifying shriek, which gave rise to their nickname. In addition to their skill in riding a bantha, the Jundland Banshee was proficient with various weapons, including a gaderffii and a blaster carbine.

The Rebel Alliance's SecuriDex classified the Jundland Banshee's threat level as low to medium, based on information provided by Sandwind Team leader, N'tain Xalis. However, both Tay Vanis and Adazian Liebke, Rebel agents who had previous interactions with the Sandwind Team, believed that the potential exposure of the Sandwind Team would be devastating to Rebel operations in the sector. Therefore, the two Rebels argued that capturing or relocating the rogue Tusken Raider should be a top priority.

Behind the scenes

The Jundland Banshee was a creation of West End Games for their sourcebook, Alliance Intelligence Reports. The Banshee is intended as a gaming hook for prospective players of the roleplaying game. Players of the game might be tasked with pursuing the Banshee to prevent them from revealing the location of the Sandwind Team. Alliance Intelligence Reports states that the Jundland Banshee's sex is "presumed to be male," but subsequent references to the Banshee exclusively use male pronouns. This presumably leaves the door open for roleplayers to discover that the Tusken Raider is perhaps female.
