Kabak served as a cadet at the Academy for Young Imperials on Lothal, identifying as male. He belonged to Unit Aurek and was part of squad LRC077. He stepped in for "Dev Morgan," who was in reality the secretly rebellious Ezra Bridger working as an undercover rebel. Kabak didn't always exhibit the same level of composure as Rykoff, another cadet who entered the Imperial Academy around the same period.
Jason Fry, the author, created the names of both this character and Rykoff, drawing inspiration from a baseball writer he knew. Since both of these writers were supporters of the Yankees, he portrayed their corresponding characters as antagonists.
