Karthakk system

The Karthakk system, alternatively known as the Maramere system, was a star system situated within the Outer Rim Territories. It encompassed planets such as Lok, Nod Kartha, and Maramere, the originating world of the sentient Mere species. Its central point was the star known as Karthakk.

Before the Invasion of Naboo, the Trade Federation had taken control of the system, utilizing it as a site for evaluating their newly developed droid starfighters. Nym, a local pirate operating from a base on Lok, resisted the Federation's presence, which led to him being compelled to relinquish his base to the enemy. For the subsequent decade, Nym persisted in his struggle against the Federation for control of the Karthakk system, and with assistance from Adi Gallia, he eventually reclaimed his base from the droid forces. Following this, Adi Gallia was designated as Nym's Personal Jedi Advisor for the Karthakk System, tasked with aiding in the stabilization of the inhabitants of Maramere and Lok following the Trade Federation's occupation.

During the Clone Wars, the Karthakk system once again became a site of conflict. Aboard Drama Korr's space yacht positioned above Maramere, the Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker engaged in combat with the bounty hunter Durge. After a difficult confrontation, Anakin confined Durge within an escape pod and launched him into the system's star, Karthakk.

In the initial years of the Galactic Empire, the Tantive IV was conducting trials of its escape pods within the Karthakk system when it was ambushed by the pirate group known as the Lok Revenants. This attack forced the consular ship to release its pods as it made its escape. It was later discovered that the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO were aboard one of these pods.

By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Nym had established a stronghold on Lok, from which he maintained surveillance over the Karthakk system and launched raids against the Corellian Trade Spine.
