The Katarn family, hailing from the agricultural world of Sulon, was the origin of Kyle Katarn, a renowned Jedi Master within the New Jedi Order.
Based on Sulon, the Katarn family, who worked as farmers, included Morgan, Patricia, and their son, Kyle Katarn. Morgan also had a younger sister.
Following Patricia's death in an accident caused by a malfunctioning perimeter droid, Morgan and Kyle were left to manage the family farm. Kyle later enrolled in the Imperial Academy, while Morgan, unbeknownst to Kyle, became involved with the local Rebel militia, where he held a minor leadership position. During an Imperial assault on Sulon, led by Jerec and Captain Thrawn, Morgan was captured and subsequently executed by Jerec. Upon discovering his father's fate, Kyle, having graduated from the Academy, abandoned the Empire and joined the Rebel Alliance as a freelance mercenary, partnering with Jan Ors, who eventually became his romantic partner.
Unbeknownst to Kyle, Morgan possessed Force-sensitive abilities, a trait that Kyle had inherited. Kyle's Force abilities remained dormant until he returned to the Katarn farm on Sulon and discovered a lightsaber and a hologram revealing the truth about the Katarn legacy and its connection to the Force. Kyle would ultimately become a powerful Jedi Master within Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order.
Morgan also built a droid named WeeGee, who was stored in Morgan's workshop. Kyle discovered him and took WeeGee with him, declaring that the droid was, besides himself, the only surviving member of the Katarn Family.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Kyle and Jan considered the prospect of marriage due to the constant threat of death, but Jan declined, fearing marrying Kyle out of fear.
