Serving as a physician, Kavafi was a member of the Imperial Biological Welfare Division. He encountered and formed a friendship with Mammon Hoole, who was also an Imperial scientist.
During 0 ABY, Kavafi was employed as a doctor and virus researcher at the Mah Dala Infirmary, located in Mah Dala, on the planet Gobindi. The Shi'ido named Borborygmus Gog arrived with the intention of creating a weaponized virus for the Imperial Biological Warfare Division. Gog then imprisoned Kavafi and used his shapeshifting abilities to impersonate Kavafi and seize control of the Mah Dala Infirmary.
Six weeks subsequently, Tash Arranda, the niece of Mammon Hoole, discovered Kavafi's location. However, Gog observed this and, before she could liberate Kavafi, Gog unleashed the virus to evaluate its effects on them. Arranda utilized an electroscope to locate a portion of the cell that remained unaffected by the airborne virus. Kavafi remained in that area, safe from the virus, while Arranda made her escape through an air vent. She freed Hoole, and then returned after the virus had quickly lost its potency. The group, situated deep within one of the ziggurats upon which Mah Dala was constructed, exited through a door that led into the Gobindi jungle. There, they encountered Zak Arranda and a pair of Rebels who were collaborating with the Arrandas. Hoole, also a Shi'ido, changed his form into that of a mammoth frog, using this form to transport the others to the summit of the ziggurats, away from the threatening blobs carrying the virus.
Kavafi successfully developed an antidote to the virus, administering it to cure Tash Arranda of the infection she had contracted. Following this, he departed the planet alongside the others.
