The Keed were a species of near-Human descent, originating from the planet Keedad situated within the Outer Rim Territories. Since the early days of the Galactic Republic, they coexisted on their homeworld alongside Human colonists. Around the year 26 BBY, Ytavarg Aleema, a hybrid offspring of a Keed and a Human, was born on Keedad. After witnessing Aleema's skills in a lettranin match on Keedad, Ger Plortor, a talent scout for the Shad Furies shockball squad, enlisted him. Subsequently, the Keed athlete rose to prominence, becoming the most celebrated shockball player in the galaxy. During the Galactic Civil War, Aleema secretly supported the Rebel Alliance and acted as an agent after killing a group of Human Galactic Empire operatives in retaliation for the murder of a fellow alien shockball player.
The Keed were a sentient species of near-Human lineage, capable of producing offspring with Humans. A Keed/Human hybrid possessed a humanoid body structure, featuring two arms and two legs. Their physical characteristics included light-toned skin, a ridged forehead, and unique facial folds located near the nostrils of their wide nose and along the sides of their eyes. Hybrids could also exhibit long, dark hair on their heads.
Within the Keed social structure, individuals identified as belonging to at least one—male—gender.

The Keed's homeworld was the planet Keedad, situated in the Auril sector of the Outer Rim Territories. During the early years of the Galactic Republic, established in 25,053 BBY, Humans settled on Keedad. Ytavarg Aleema, a male Keed descendant of Keedad's Human inhabitants, was born on the planet around 26 BBY. Aleema once participated in a casual game of lettranin, a local sport on Keedad. Ger Plortor, a scout for the renowned shockball team, the Shad Furies, based in the Core Worlds, happened to be watching the game while on vacation. Impressed, Plortor recruited the Keed athlete to join the team, and Aleema accompanied the scout to the Core Worlds.

Ytavarg Aleema of the Keed ultimately achieved widespread fame as the most skilled and celebrated shockball player in the galaxy. His face became recognizable throughout the Galactic Empire, despite the government's generally Humanocentric views. At some point during the Galactic Civil War, shortly after the Battle of Yavin, a group of seven Humans, seemingly rowdy Furies fans but actually agents of an Imperial Moff, attacked Ap Kormar, an alien player from the Quent Assassins team, after a game between the Shad Furies and Quent Assassins. Kormar, suspected of sympathizing with the Rebel Alliance, was beaten to death. Aleema, horrified by the act and attempting to protect Kormar, retaliated by using his shockball equipment to kill all of the attackers.
Following certain political maneuvers, the Keed was reinstated to his team. However, he also became a valuable foster agent for the Rebel Alliance. In this role, Aleema provided temporary shelter at his mansion on the Melinz celestial body in the Core Worlds to Rebel agents in need. Furthermore, the wealthy athlete donated half of his income to the Rebel Alliance. Eventually, Airen Cracken, a Human Alliance general, included an entry on the Keed agent in a datafile documenting various Rebel operatives.
The Keed were conceived by Craig Robert Carey and first appeared in Cracken's Rebel Operatives, a 1994 sourcebook by West End Games designed for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Mike Vilardi provided the illustration of Ytavarg Aleema in the book.
