A battle cruiser was under the command of General Khypes of the Sith Empire circa 3645 BBY, when he received orders to conquer the newly discovered Voss system. Before Khypes could initiate contact with the indigenous Voss people and request their unconditional surrender, the clandestine Star Cabal employed their advanced technology to seize control of the starship's operational systems, triggering a catastrophic explosion. Almost immediately afterwards, the battle cruiser's accompanying escort ships were also annihilated. The unexplained destruction of the entire fleet sent shockwaves throughout both the Galactic Republic and the Empire. The Empire considered the possibility of Republic sabotage or a hidden weapon possessed by the Voss, whereas the Republic speculated that internal conflict among the Sith was the cause. Consequently, both the Republic and the Empire initiated diplomatic discussions with the Force-sensitive Voss, each aspiring to forge an alliance with the species.
The initial reference to Khypes and his battle cruiser appeared in the Codex entry titled "The Imperial Attack on Voss," featured in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game developed by BioWare and launched in 2011.
