Khypes was a high-ranking officer, specifically a general, serving within the Imperial Army of the reestablished Sith Empire during the period known as the Cold War, a tense era between the Empire and the opposing Galactic Republic. In approximately 3645 BBY, Khypes received orders to journey to the newly discovered planet of Voss. He was given command of a battle cruiser accompanied by numerous army divisions with the mission to subdue the planet and its Force-sensitive inhabitants. Upon entering the Voss system, before Khypes could establish communication with the Voss people, the [battle cruiser](/article/battlecruiser/legends] under his command was seized by the technological prowess of the clandestine Star Cabal, resulting in its destruction. The accompanying ships were also annihilated shortly thereafter. The death of Khypes, along with the destruction of his entire fleet, caused widespread shock within both the Empire and the Republic. They were unable to determine the cause of the devastating explosion. Consequently, the Empire attributed Khypes's actions to those of a rogue officer as they began diplomatic discussions with the Voss.
The initial mention of Khypes occurred in the Codex entry titled "The Imperial Attack on Voss" within Star Wars: The Old Republic, a video game that was launched by BioWare in the year 2011.
