The Kiris Asteroid Cluster existed as a belt composed of numerous asteroids, situated on the outer fringes of the Corellian system. The asteroids populating this belt were identified numerically; specifically, Kiris 3, Kiris 6, and Kiris 17 denoted the uppermost section of the cluster. The star Corell could be observed from below the belt. The whereabouts of the belt were not widely known; even Han Solo, a Corellian native and highly skilled pilot, found it necessary to inquire about its specific location.
Thrackan Sal-Solo commanded the construction of the highly classified Kiris shipyards, which were carefully concealed within the asteroid belt, operating under the belief that the cluster remained unnoticed by the galaxy as a whole. However, prior to the conclusion of the initial engagements of the Second Galactic Civil War, Admiral Nek Bwua'tu, a flag officer in the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances Defense Fleet, had already identified its position. In the time leading up to the Battle of Hapes, Jedi pilots flying StealthXs maintained constant surveillance over the shipyards, anticipating the emergence of the Corellians' clandestine fleet.
