The clash known as the Battle of Hapes involved Hapan loyalists against insurgents who sought to replace Queen Mother Tenel Ka Djo with a ruler sympathetic to Corellia. During this conflict, Jacen Solo gave the order for his vessel to unleash its weaponry upon the Millennium Falcon, even though his parents were passengers aboard.
Under the leadership of Queen Mother Tenel Ka, the Hapes Consortium had committed two fleets to support the Galactic Alliance in their operations against Corellia. Nevertheless, factions within Hapan society desired to break away from the Alliance and align themselves with the burgeoning rebellion. Because of Tenel Ka's position, the Heritage Council—a group antagonistic toward the Queen—concluded that the only way to alter policy was to assassinate Tenel Ka, along with her daughter Allana, and seize control. Dur Gejjen, the Corellian leader, who was eager for such a powerful ally in Corellia's fight against the Galactic Alliance, pledged Corellian assistance if it became necessary. Due to unforeseen events, the Heritage Fleet, commanded by Ducha AlGray, was compelled to engage the Hapan Loyalists in open warfare above Hapes.
The Hapan Royal Navy had gathered above the planet when the Heritage Council's forces launched their attack. Acting on intelligence, Jacen Solo had diverted a portion of the fleet toward the Relephon Moons to confront AlGray's insurgent fleet stationed there. However, AlGray's fleet, having been tipped off by spies, had already departed for Hapes. Joining forces with three Corellian Dreadnaughts from the Kiris shipyards, they used a comet as concealment to approach the planet. However, when they executed a microjump to move further into the system, the Royal Navy was ready and waiting for them at the reversion coordinates, thanks to intelligence supplied by Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo, who had infiltrated the Heritage fleet.
The Royal Navy's initial barrage had a devastating impact on the unshielded insurgent fleet as they emerged from hyperspace. Although they eventually managed to raise their shields, the formation sustained significant damage, and AlGray's flagship, the Kendall, came under concentrated fire.
However, the Corellian Dreadnaughts—engineered for high-intensity combat—were gearing up for a full-scale assault with the aim of penetrating the Royal Navy and destroying the Dragon Queen, Tenel Ka's command vessel. The Solos, revealing their presence, sent a message to Tenel Ka, advising her to withdraw toward Hapes in order to counter the Corellian strategy.
Admiral Nek Bwua'tu, who had been observing the fleet at the Kiris shipyards, arrived on the opposite side of Megos. Leading the fleet aboard the Admiral Ackbar, Bwua'tu bypassed the Hapan moon and created an opening in the insurgent flank as it continued its pursuit of the Queen. However, just as the engagement seemed to be turning into a decisive Alliance victory, the Galney fleet exited hyperspace and began to accelerate toward the battle.
Tenel Ka had always believed Ducha Galney to be one of her most steadfast allies, largely because the Ducha's sister served as her chamberlain. However, Jaina Solo and Zekk had discovered that Ducha Galney was colluding with AlGray and the Heritage Council. After being rescued by Ben Skywalker aboard the Rover, they attempted to outpace the Galney fleet back to Hapes in order to warn the Queen before they could infiltrate her formation. Emerging in the midst of the Galney fleet, the Rover evacuated its crew and transmitted a warning to the Hapan Royal Navy. Approaching rapidly from Hapes's gravity well, the Galney fleet was identified as hostile.
Jacen Solo, aboard the Anakin Solo, returned from the Relephon Moons and began engaging the Galney Fleet as it advanced toward the battle. One Battle Dragon was destroyed before it could activate its shields, and the Loyalist Battle Dragons accompanying the Anakin Solo eliminated two more during the pursuit. Half of the Galney fleet broke off to engage Solo, hoping to delay him while the other half sped toward the Dragon Queen and the Royal Navy to bolster the insurgent fleet. Unbeknownst to the Hapans accompanying Jacen, Chume'da Allana was present aboard the Anakin Solo, and had already narrowly escaped death at the hands of Aurra Sing.
Not wanting to put his daughter in further danger, and believing Tenel Ka would want him to do the same, Solo dispatched 18 Battle Dragons to intercept the attacking portion of the Galney fleet to reinforce the Queen, remaining behind with the other two and the Anakin to safeguard the heiress to the Hapan throne. His pursuit screen sustained heavy damage as it attempted to break through the defensive half of Galney's forces.
As Bwua'tu decimated the insurgent fleet and the Royal Navy rallied around their queen, Solo's rescue squadron finally breached the Galney defense and pursued the remaining portion of the traitor fleet toward the main battle. As the traitors approached, the remnants of the Royal Navy began to engage them. Solo's six surviving Battle Dragons in the rescue squadron also attacked their rear.
Solo then led the Anakin Solo and his two Battle Dragons into what remained of Galney's defensive screen. Acting on his own agenda, he ordered a long-range turbolaser battery to target the Millennium Falcon as it approached the evacuees from the Rover. His strikes inflicted catastrophic damage on the vessel, killing the Noghri bodyguards Cakhmaim and Meewalh, and forcing the evacuees to eject once more. The Falcon, however, managed to escape and jumped to hyperspace just before destruction.
The three Corellian Dreadnaughts were defeated, although it cannot be confirmed that all three were destroyed, as Admiral Genna Delpin survived the engagement and was later promoted to Supreme Commander. The Galney fleet was annihilated, and Jacen Solo was credited with its destruction and with saving Tenel Ka, making him a hero in the eyes of the Hapan people. The Heritage Council's fleet was also defeated, and the nobles who had participated in the treasonous assault were appropriately punished, likely through execution. The Millennium Falcon, despite suffering extensive damage, survived and was flown to Gyndine by the Solos, where it was repaired by Lando Calrissian. Following the battle, Jacen Solo became a popular figure among Hapan women.
