Knight Errant, a novel within the Star Wars Legends continuity, was penned by John Jackson Miller. It serves as a companion piece to Jackson's Star Wars: Knight Errant comic book series. Del Rey initially released it on January 25, 2011. The storyline unfolds in the year 1032 BBY, picking up after the events depicted in Aflame, the inaugural story arc of the comic series.
Set a millennium prior to Luke Skywalker, and a generation before Darth Bane, in a galaxy far, far away…
The Republic faces a dire crisis. The Sith are rampant, battling amongst themselves for galactic supremacy. Amidst this chaos, Jedi Knight Kerra Holt stands alone, determined to vanquish the Dark Lords. She faces diverse and formidable adversaries: Lord Daiman, who believes he is the universe's creator; Lord Odion, bent on its destruction; the peculiar siblings Quillan and Dromika; and the mysterious Arkadia. This patchwork of warring Sith lords inflicts brutality, leaving Kerra Holt as the sole protector of the innocent.
Detecting a malevolent pattern within the chaos, Kerra embarks on a perilous journey, confronting increasingly dangerous foes. Outnumbered, her only hope lies in forging alliances with those serving her enemies, including a cryptic Sith spy and a cunning mercenary general. But will these individuals prove to be allies or adversaries in her quest for salvation?
The novel opens with Jedi Knight Kerra Holt's attempt to assassinate Lord Daiman during the Battle of Gazzari, as the deranged Sith engages in combat with his ruthless brother, Lord Odion. However, Kerra, aided by Jarrow Rusher, chooses to rescue the innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.
After escaping Gazzari, Kerra, Jarrow, and their companions arrive on a planet governed by the Sith siblings Qullian and Dromika. Kerra succeeds in liberating the world from their control, only for Arkadia Calimondra's forces to arrive, seeking to retrieve their leader's cousins.
Calimondra transports her cousins, along with Kerra, Jarrow, and the rescued civilians, to her own world, presenting her society as a haven of peace, unlike the others. However, Kerra discerns the deception, recognizing that Calimondra has created a society where individuality and advancement are suppressed. Despite this, Calimondra implores Kerra to assist her in eliminating Vilia Calimondra to prevent conflicts like the one between Daiman and Odion. Kerra refuses to aid the Sith and flees with Jarrow and the others.
