Knire Dark

Knire Dark, a Syboona of the female persuasion, operated as both a smuggler and a Podracer pilot. This individual was active in the last decades of the Galactic Republic, around 24 BBY, utilizing the sport of Podracing as a cover for her illicit smuggling operations. Despite it being a mere facade, her proficiency with the Serabyss Howler 1165 was such that she gained recognition as the favorite racer for the Ballast Complex racetrack on the watery planet Mon Calamari, even though she didn't actually hold any official speed records for the course. However, her smuggling activities were disrupted around 22 BBY when Republic authorities conducted a raid on one of her contraband storehouses.

Biography

Podracing as a Fugitive

Knire Dark became the track favorite for the Ballast Complex racetrack.

During the final decades of the Galactic Republic, specifically around the year of 24 BBY, Knire Dark, a Syboona of the female sex, primarily engaged in smuggling. To evade Republic authorities, Dark procured a Serabyss Howler 1165 Podracer and entered the current Podracing season, using the sport as a facade for transporting her illicit goods. She participated in the Podracing Open tournament, a series of four races held in the Outer Rim. She also raced in select courses from the more cutthroat Hutt Championships. Despite her pilot disguise, Dark was visibly anxious on worlds with Republic officials, which showed on the track: She avoided conflict with other racers and often stayed towards the back, looking for hidden routes to avoid detection. However, she would defend her position if threatened.

At one point, Dark managed to eliminate a competitor from a race on the Ballast Complex course, located on the water world of Mon Calamari. Dark ultimately became the track favorite at the Ballast Complex, even though she didn't possess any official speed records for that particular course. She did, however, hold the third position for total knockouts on the track, with a total of one.

Despite Podracing being merely a front, Dark's on-track skills improved, evident in her best lap and three-lap race speed records on The Brightlands course, situated on the Twi'lek homeworld of Ryloth, clocking in at 00:52.65 and 02:59.38 minutes, respectively. She also grew more aggressive, securing the third spot for most knockouts on the Ruins of Carnuss Gorgull track, found on the jungle planet Gamorr, and on the Grand Reefs course on Mon Calamari, with two knockouts and one knockout, respectively. She further excelled on the Citadel course on Gamorr, achieving the second-best lap time. Back on Ryloth, she claimed the second-best lap and race times on the Nightlands course, with times of 01:17.38 and 03:47.78 minutes, respectively.

Despite her growing list of accomplishments, her burgeoning Podracing career was short-lived. By 22 BBY, Republic authorities finally caught up with her illegal activities and raided a storehouse owned by the Syboona. They discovered hundreds of kilos of contraband, and the bust was one of multiple Podrace-related scandals that cast doubt on the sport's future.

Personality and traits

Knire Dark was a paranoid individual, constantly vigilant for anyone seeking to dismantle her smuggling operation. Despite this fear of capture, she chose to conceal herself in plain sight by entering the dangerous world of high-speed Podracing. On the track, she developed a nervous habit of avoiding contact with other racers, although she would defend her position when necessary. Her occasional aggressiveness led her to knock other pilots out of races.

Despite being new to the sport by 24 BBY, her skills and career advanced simultaneously, transforming her into a formidable competitor. Dark possessed violet skin and orange eyes. Her arms exhibited a bluer skin tone compared to the rest of her body.

Skills and abilities

As a pilot, Knire Dark displayed considerable skill on the Podracing courses, accumulating both speed and knockout records during her career due to her sharp reflexes and agility, enabling her to navigate the treacherous obstacles and terrain common in professional Podracing.

Equipment

Knire Dark favored a Serabyss Howler 1165 Podracer during her short racing career. This large vehicle was quite resilient and could withstand moderate damage. Upgrades would only enhance its durability. Dark's Howler was uniformly green, with lighter, yellow-green symbols adorning the engine housings. Similar symbols were present on the cockpit's fin, which protruded from the bottom of the cockpit. The cockpit chair was upholstered in brown with a subtle green tint. The rear of the engines featured alternating green and white stripes. Her winnings could have been used to purchase components from the Toydarian junk dealer Watto, potentially transforming her Podracer into an even more formidable machine.

Behind the scenes

Knire Dark made her debut in the PlayStation 2 video game Star Wars: Racer Revenge, appearing as one of twenty-three playable characters. The game resulted from a partnership between LucasArts and Rainbow Studios and was released in February 2002. Nick Jameson provided her voice, also voicing another racer, Aldar Beedo. Players could unlock Dark by either finishing ahead of her or knocking her out on the Ballast Complex track.

The character's species and elements of her backstory were detailed in the game's companion guide, Star Wars: Racer Revenge: Prima's Official Strategy Guide, which was published alongside the game. Within the game, the race announcer Dax Gazaway mistakenly refers to Knire Dark using masculine pronouns such as "his."
