These creatures possessed elongated heads, green fur, and purple tongues. Further anatomical features of the Kobarian swamp dog included a tail, ribs, and haunches. Their stomach-acid was known for its exceptionally unpleasant properties.
Kobarian swamp dogs, being non-sentient, were capable of domestication and distinguished themselves through unwavering obedience and considerable stamina. Higgs and Twiggs, the pair destined as a wedding gift for the Wroonian female Pelf Pachoola, were observed licking their handlers and individuals nearby with their lengthy tongues, and emitting howls when their caretakers showed distress. Moreover, Higgs and Twiggs displayed hearty appetites, readily consuming treats provided by their caretakers.
Existing as early as 22 BBY according to the galactic standard calendar, these Kobarian canines at one point inhabited a swampy environment.
Occasionally, Kobarian swamp dogs were exhibited as show dogs. Around 22 BBY, Higgs and Twiggs, a duo of swamp dogs, accompanied Pelf Pachoola aboard the luxury liner Salin Mariner. These dogs represented a prized wedding gift for Pachoola and her betrothed from Pachoola's father, who was also present on the Salin Mariner. During the liner's journey, the pirate Hondo Ohnaka successfully abducted both Pachoolas, the dogs, and another passenger from the vessel.
In 0 ABY, the Sith Lord Darth Vader likened Imperial Captain Mulchive Wermis to a Kobarian swamp dog after employing the Force to choke Wermis.
The initial mention of Kobarian swamp dogs occurred in the comic book Star Wars (1977) 22, penned by Archie Goodwin and released by Marvel Comics in April 1979. The short story Hondo Ohnaka's Not-So-Big Score, authored by Jason Fry and featured in Star Wars Insider 144 in 2013, marks the first appearance of these swamp dogs.
