A Twi'lek hunter named Komad Fortuna operated on Tatooine during the era of the Jedi Civil War. He followed in the footsteps of his father, a hunter of great renown on Tatooine who famously slew a krayt dragon long ago, Komad adhered to honorable hunting practices, employing only traditional methods.
By 3956 BBY, Komad had dedicated decades to his hunting pursuits. It was during this time that Revan encountered him at Fazza's hunting lodge in Anchorhead, while Revan was on the planet Tatooine seeking a Star Map. Revan would eventually discover that the Star Map was located within the lair of a canyon krayt dragon, the very same dragon that Komad was actively tracking. This particular dragon was an exceptionally large male, surpassing even the size of the one Komad's father had vanquished, and its presence was disrupting the region's ecological stability. Acknowledging the ecological threat, Komad determined that the krayt dragon's demise was essential for restoring the natural order. Given the urgency of neutralizing the threat, Komad opted to deviate from his customary honorable approach, deciding instead to lure the creature into a minefield. As the task necessitated two individuals, Komad enlisted the assistance of another hunter and journeyed to the dragon's cave in the Eastern Dune Sea.
Simultaneously, Revan had ventured into the Eastern Dune Sea, guided by clues leading to the Star Map. Upon reaching the cave's entrance, Komad's companion, impatient with the wait, rashly charged into the cave, where he was immediately killed by the formidable dragon. Recognizing an opportunity in Revan's arrival, Komad persuaded him to assume the role of the deceased hunter and secure bait for the dragon, specifically from the numerous roaming herds of banthas. Revan successfully procured the banthas, and the krayt dragon emerged from its lair, only to trigger Komad's mines and meet its end. Komad retrieved two krayt dragon pearls from the dragon's remains, gifting one to Revan. Revan then entered the cave to retrieve the Star Map, and the two parted ways.
Fate would have it that their paths crossed once more on Kashyyyk, where Revan was in pursuit of another Star Map, while Komad sought new prey. Feeling remorseful for the harm he may have caused to Tatooine's ecology, Komad had embarked on a quest for a more significant hunt, targeting the dangerous creatures inhabiting the Shadowlands. Disheartened by Czerka's disregard for the environment, Komad aimed to gain the favor of the Wookiees, contemplating adopting a lifestyle similar to that of Jolee Bindo in the Shadowlands to earn their trust. It was here that Revan and he separated for the final time, and his subsequent fate remains unknown.
Komad Fortuna made his debut in the 2003 video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, developed by BioWare.
The name Komad is possibly a portmanteau created from the Twi'lek names Bib Fortuna and Koyi Komad. It could also be a reference to the Komodo Dragon lizard, hinting at his krayt dragon hunt. During the initial encounter with Komad, the dialogue option "How much would it cost for me not to kill you?" and similar exchanges can cause Komad to flee, though it does not affect the quest. When Fortuna reveals his strategy to Revan, after Revan has acquired the bantha fodder, the player can say "Look, I have your fodder". This is a hidden reference to the commonly misquoted line "Luke, I am your father" from The Empire Strikes Back.
The player can demand a larger reward from Komad outside the krayt dragon's cave, either to get a second krayt dragon pearl or to gain dark side points, and then kill him if he refuses.
Alternatively, in another dark side option, when Komad shares his plan to kill the krayt dragon, the player can tell him that he is no longer needed now that the plan is known, leading to Revan killing him. If this path is chosen, the player can obtain the krayt dragon's two pearls, but the dragon's corpse will remain indestructible.
