Koyi Komad was a student at the Mrlsst Trade and Science Academy, where Rorax Falken, a Professor, taught her hyperspatial physics; she also chose xenopsych as an additional subject. It was here that she formed a friendship with Anki Pace.
During the events of the Phantom Affair, [Rogue Squadron](/article/rogue_squadron/legends] encountered Koyi while they were on leave. She was employed as a waitress at The Soundmound, a local cantina. They quickly became friends, and Koyi aided the Rogues in evading capture by concealing them in a secure location within the trees situated above the Academy grounds. This experience broadened her eyes to a wider perspective, leading her to pursue work-study and, ultimately, to join Rogue Squadron.
At the time the Battle of Brentaal IV occurred, Koyi held the position of chief mechanic for the Squadron. Plourr, who was known for being highly critical, greatly valued her abilities with a hydrospanner.
Later, she married Nrin Vakil, a Rogue pilot, and extended an invitation to Anki to attend her wedding.
The book Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars contains a photo costume gallery in the back where Koyi Mateil is mistakenly labeled as Koyi Komad.
Darko Macan, the writer, gave Koyi Komad her name, which was one of the Croatian author's inside jokes. Her name, like many others in The Phantom Affair, is actually a description of her in Croatian, Darko Macan's first language. The literal translation of Koyi Komad is "What a Babe."
