KR2-M80, an astromech droid, was subjected to forced labor within the control center of the Pyke Syndicate's spice mining operations located on the planetary body of Kessel. This droid was characterized by its silver-colored dome, along with white and yellow armor panels, and employed an Intellex IV droid brain for its processing capabilities. During the events of 10 BBY, KR2-M80 gained his freedom when his restraining bolt was deactivated amidst a rebellion of enslaved people within the mining complex, instigated by the droid known as L3-37. KR2-M80 was observed near one of the control consoles as the criminals inside the control room remotely assisted their associate Han Solo towards the coaxium storage chamber of the mines, following which the criminals exited the room to flee Kessel. Shortly thereafter, KR2-M80 was seen positioned on one of the landing pads as a conflict unfolded around him between the liberated slaves and their former captors.
KR2-M80's initial appearance was in the 2018 Anthology film titled Solo: A Star Wars Story, with identification of the character first occurring within the related reference publication Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide, authored by Pablo Hidalgo.
