Kyrouac

Kyrouac, a farming world located in the Inner Rim, was under the control of the Galactic Empire. This planet was considered a backwater. The local wildlife included brush bats and an unidentified shelled creature that lived in the Spiral Sea. The Kyrouaquian people were governed by the Kyrouaquian High Council. Montalvia, the planet's [capital](/article/capital/legends], was the only settlement that featured a spaceport.

During the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance dispatched a diplomatic team to Kyrouac. Their aim was to persuade the Kyrouaquian High Council to support the Rebellion. However, an individual on the council betrayed the Rebels by informing the Empire of their presence. This led to the arrival of Imperial stormtroopers in Montalvia. They arrived aboard starships normally used to transport grain. CSL Danenberger, a Kyrouaquian who was a Jedi enthusiast, noticed the arrival of these transports.

Description

Kyrouac, a terrestrial planet, resided within the Kyrouac system of the Inner Rim, which was part of the Vodilux sector. A notable geographical feature was the Spiral Sea, habitat to a unique species of shelled creatures. The brush bat was also part of Kyrouac's fauna. At the edge of a field near the spaceport in Montalvia, the capital city, dry grass could be found.

History

Imperial backwater

For centuries, Kyrouac remained on the fringes of the galactic community. The Galactic Republic's military did not visit during the height of the Clone Wars. Although Kyrouac was officially part of the Galactic Empire, the Imperial Military also stayed away until the Galactic Civil War broke out against the Rebel Alliance.

During this later conflict, the Alliance, recognizing Kyrouac as a potential source of food, dispatched a diplomatic mission to the Kyrouaquian High Council to discuss the possibility of the planet joining their cause. Upon the Rebels' arrival, CSL Danenberger, a local Force-sensitive enthusiast of the Rebellion and the history of the Jedi, unsuccessfully attempted to approach and assist the delegation, hoping to join the Alliance.

Betrayal on Kyrouac

Imperial stormtroopers were dispatched to Kyrouac to capture Rebel diplomats.

As the Rebels engaged in talks with the Kyrouaquian High Council, a member of the council betrayed them by informing the Empire about the diplomats' presence. Consequently, an Imperial Star Destroyer entered Kyrouac's orbit, and several grain transports carrying enough Imperial stormtroopers to seize control of Montalvia, the planet's capital, were sent to the city.

One day, while negotiations were still in progress, Danenberger was walking through Montalvia, looking for anything out of the ordinary. He then noticed an unusually high number of transport starships landing at the Montalvia spaceport. Unbeknownst to Danenberger, these ships were carrying the stormtroopers.

Inhabitants

The native people of Kyrouac, the Kyrouaquians, spoke Galactic Basic Standard and included members of the Human species. CSL Danenberger, a Human citizen, was considered eccentric by many Kyrouaquians due to his fascination with the history of the Jedi Knight tradition. The farmers who made up the majority of Kyrouac's population were governed by the Kyrouaquian High Council. The locals sold grain to offworlders, who used transport ships, including a GR-75 medium transport, to collect their purchases from the Montalvia spaceport.

The city of Montalvia had its own local government, police, and medic services. During the Galactic Civil War, a cantina in the city hosted several alien sentients, including a Rodian.

Locations

Montalvia was Kyrouac's capital city. It was the only settlement large enough to support a spaceport, located on the southwestern edge of the city. During the Rebel diplomats' visit, their lodgings were situated in Montalvia's western district. The city also contained a jail, a cantina, and abandoned warehouses.

Behind the scenes

Kyrouac was first featured in Alone Against the Empire, a solitaire roleplaying adventure by Lester W. Smith for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. It was published in Challenge 32 in 1988. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Kyrouac system, and therefore Kyrouac, in grid square K-14.

Further events on Kyrouac

CSL Danenberger may become involved in a cantina brawl on Kyrouac in one of the ways the events of Alone Against the Empire can play out.

Alone Against the Empire, being a solitaire roleplaying adventure, presents multiple possible scenarios for the events involving CSL Danenberger, the player-controlled character, depending on the player's decisions. If Danenberger ignores the unusual activity at the Montalvia spaceport, he visits a cantina and becomes involved in a brawl. This can lead to Danenberger's death, imprisonment in the local jail, or successful escape from the cantina. The latter two outcomes reveal that the Rebel delegation has left its lodgings, and all three serve as endings to the adventure.

If Danenberger investigates the landings at the spaceport, he can either approach the grain transports stealthily or openly. A stealthy approach reveals that the transports are carrying Imperial stormtroopers. If a stormtrooper spots Danenberger, it may lead to his imprisonment or death. If Danenberger successfully leaves the spaceport and informs the delegation's commander of the situation, the Rebels, guided by Danenberger, evade Imperial capture. The Rebels and Danenberger then engage in a firefight with stormtroopers at the spaceport to escape the planet aboard the delegation's starship, ending the adventure.

An open approach to the landing site leads to an encounter with the area's security guard, which could result in an attack on Danenberger and possible imprisonment. Again, upon successfully leaving the spaceport, Danenberger goes to the Rebel lodgings and must convince the Rebel commander of the suspicious nature of the transport landings. Success leads to both Danenberger and the Rebels witnessing the stormtroopers at the spaceport, followed by the firefight. Failure may result in imprisonment due to the actions of a Kyrouaquian official allied with the Empire, or a return to the spaceport and a stealthy approach to the landing site.
