LE-BO2D9

LE-BO2D9, more commonly known as Leebo, functioned as a LE-series repair droid manufactured by Cybot Galactica. During the era of the Galactic Civil War, he was under the ownership of Dash Rendar.

Biography

Leebo and Dash under fire

As a standard model of LE repair droid, Leebo's initial assignment involved working as a safety standards inspector within the Esseles starport. An incident occurred where an unidentified transport took off while he was conducting an inspection, inadvertently making the droid a stowaway. Subsequently, LE-BO2D9 transitioned into the role of a ship mechanic, changing hands over the years. With each owner, his capabilities and skills were enhanced, expanding his operational scope. Eventually, he came into the possession of Corellian pilot and mercenary Dash Rendar. Dash obtained the droid as payment from the Rodian comedian Kood Gareeda, and Dash thought his new acquisition had picked up his previous owner's sardonic sense of humor.

Leebo accompanied Dash on his journey to Hoth, taking the controls of his light freighter, the Outrider, guiding it away from Echo Base and into the Hoth asteroid field after the Imperial attack. He later assisted Dash during his exploits on Ord Mantell and Gall, including a bodyguard mission to safeguard Luke Skywalker as assigned by Princess Leia, the raid on an Imperial freighter known as the Suprosa, and the subsequent rescue of Leia Organa from Xizor's Palace. Throughout these events, he consistently guarded the Outrider while offering counsel to Dash during his travels.

Following the rescue of Princess Leia, he welcomed Dash back aboard the Outrider. Leebo contacted the Rogue Quadron to provide support for their escape from Imperial Center, and also piloted the ship during the Battle over Coruscant, while Rendar operated the gun turret. As the dogfight reached its conclusion, Leebo was at the helm of the Outrider when Rendar executed a last-ditch jump into hyperspace, narrowly avoiding annihilation amidst the wreckage of the exploded Falleen's Fist. To outside observers, it appeared that the Outrider had been destroyed, resulting in the presumed deaths of all on board.

Characteristics

Leebo, working on the Outrider

Leebo was frequently seen carrying a bag filled with essential tools. Over the course of his operational history, some of his more worn components were replaced with newer models, resulting in a visually eclectic mix of both old and new metallic parts.

With integrated specialized sensors, a [holoprojector](/article/holoprojector-legends], a single-channel long-range comlink, and a computer interface, he demonstrated expertise as both a mechanic and a pilot. His programming, having been continuously updated by various owners, was notably more advanced than that of standard LE repair droids.

Having undergone few, if any, memory wipes during his existence, he developed a distinct personality and a unique sense of humor.

Behind the scenes

The character of Leebo was named in honor of Mike "Leebo" Levine, a technical artist in the art department at LucasArts.

Tom Kane provided the voice for Leebo in Shadows of The Empire.
