Line battalion

A battalion of infantry, also known as a line battalion, served as a component of the Imperial Army structure.

Structure

The battalion, led by a Major, consisted of a battalion headquarters and support staff, alongside three line companies in addition to one assault company. A typical line battalion had a complement of 810 individuals; 608 of these were combat soldiers. When a fully staffed assault company was included, the total number of personnel increased to 828 with 626 combatants. These line battalions represented one of the most frequently encountered formations within the Imperial Army and participated in more ground engagements compared to any other battalion type.

It was possible to bolster line battalions by incorporating an additional two line companies, along with two more assault companies.
