Lo Bukk

Lo Bukk was a male Zabrak who trained as a Padawan within the Jedi Order during the closing years of the Galactic Republic. In approximately 67 BBY, the Order dispatched him and his Jedi Master, Ni-Cada, to the planet of Abraxin to investigate the ongoing murders of marsh haunts. These killings were being perpetrated by Naat Lare, a Force-sensitive Nautolan. While on Abraxin, the Jedi unknowingly encountered Darth Plagueis, the Muun Sith Lord, who was also in pursuit of Lare. After Plagueis successfully contacted Lare, the Muun convinced the Nautolan to attack the Jedi as proof of his worthiness to join the Sith. The ensuing skirmish was brief, ending with Bukk's Master killing Lare.

Biography

As a Force-sensitive Zabrak male, Lo Bukk was a Jedi Padawan under the tutelage of Master Ni-Cada. He served both the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic approximately forty-five years prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars, a series of conflicts waged between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Order dispatched him and Ni-Cada to Abraxin, a swampy planet situated in the Tion Cluster, to investigate the repeated killing of marsh haunts, non-sentient creatures characterized by red-eyed, gray-and-green-skinned appearances. Naat Lare, a Force-sensitive Nautolan, was responsible for the marsh haunt killings. Darth Venamis, a prospective Bith Sith Lord of the Darth Bane lineage, had selected Lare as a possible Sith apprentice. During their time on Abraxin, the Muun Sith Lord Darth Plagueis passed by Bukk and Ni-Cada while disguised, as the Jedi were negotiating with a member of the Barabel species – cold-blooded reptilians originating from Barab I - for a water skimmer. Both Jedi felt Plagueis's presence, although neither recognized him as a Sith, a group of Force-sensitives who drew upon the dark side of the Force. Later, as Bukk and his master exited an eatery carrying flagons of liquid, they unknowingly crossed paths with Darth Plagueis once more, and later talked with the Muun, who was also looking for Lare, as they sat at a table and discussed with the Muun about the recent killing of marsh haunts. Plagueis then contacted Lare and persuaded him to attack Bukk and his master as proof of his worthiness to join the Sith. The Jedi used the skimmer to track Lare, and a brief skirmish broke out near the water after the Nautolan attacked the two, resulting in Lare's death at the hands of Bukk's master.

Personality and traits

Compared to his master, Lo Bukk possessed a more open demeanor, readily revealing the nature of the Jedi's mission to Plagueis, despite his master's attempts to conceal their purpose. When the Muun Sith Lord Darth Plagueis passed by in disguise, both Ni-Cada and Lo Bukk sensed his presence, though neither identified him as a Sith, a group of Force-sensitives who drew upon the dark side of the Force.

Behind the scenes

Lo Bukk's only appearance to date is in the 2012 novel Darth Plagueis, authored by James Luceno. The novel explores the history of Darth Plagueis. While not explicitly stated in the novel, Lo Bukk's name may have been inspired by the Bukk animal, a common naming convention among Zabrak families.
