The presence of gases within the field impaired the functionality of sensors and disrupted communication signals, leading to challenging navigation conditions because of poor visibility. Throughout the duration of the Clone Wars, automated defensive systems were established inside this asteroid field. Following the theft of the head of a New Republic protocol droid, a Resistance team, commanded by Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, made their getaway aboard a passenger starship. They were chased through the field by Commander Poe Dameron. Holdo aided Dameron in navigating the hazardous field discreetly, and then she revealed the Resistance's existence and their mission to him.
