A small group of Resistance agents, under the leadership of Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, stole the protocol droid's head from the Brooksdion space station. Commander Poe Dameron, leading the New Republic's Rapier Squadron, gave chase to the thieves, however, the Resistance ship successfully fled with the protocol droid's head.
During the New Republic's reign, the protocol droid was assigned to Admiral Mathieson. By the year 31 ABY, the droid had been working alongside Mathieson for a duration of five years, diligently recording all of the admiral's conversations. While Admiral Mathieson was stationed at the Brooksdion space station between the years of 30 ABY and 31 ABY, Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo of the Resistance extracted and stole the droid's head, as she believed it contained crucial information regarding the New Republic High Command's inaction concerning the escalating threat posed by the First Order.
Holdo and her team successfully escaped the station aboard a passenger craft piloted by pilot Nien Nunb, but were pursued by the New Republic's Rapier Squadron after the personnel at Brooksdion were alerted to the theft. Commander Poe Dameron managed to disable the starship's hyperdrive, but the vessel was still able to activate its engines. Dameron, acting under orders from Mathieson to destroy the ship carrying the droid head, chased the Resistance craft into the perilous Lost Souls asteroid field. After navigating the dangerous field, Holdo disabled Dameron's X-wing starfighter to prevent further pursuit. The Resistance vessel, with its hyperdrive repaired, jumped into hyperspace carrying the head of Mathieson's protocol droid.
The protocol droid belonging to Admiral Mathieson was distinguished by its gold plating. The droid possessed a comprehensive archive of Mathieson's conversations with other individuals, spanning five years.
The protocol droid's head made an appearance in the comic Age of Resistance - Poe Dameron 1, penned by Tom Taylor, with illustrations by Ramon Rosanas, and published by Marvel Comics on August 28, 2019.
