Lucky (comic story)

"Lucky" is a tale featured in Star Wars Tales 23 (subsequently compiled within both Star Wars Tales Volume 6 and Star Wars Legends Epic Collection: The New Republic Vol. 2). This story delves into the backstory of Wedge Antilles, revealing additional aspects of his past. The primary narrative unfolds in 2 BBY, while the framing narrative occurs a few weeks following the Battle of Endor.

Plot summary

The narrative concentrates on Wedge, highlighting his perceived "luck," despite his consistent failure to achieve his true desires. The majority of the story unfolds as a flashback, illustrating Wedge's initial decision to enlist with the Rebellion.

On Gus Talon, Wedge develops romantic feelings for a woman named Mala. However, Mala's father, Rallo, is affiliated with the Rebellion and, while Antilles is away, the Imperials decimate Gus Talon.

In the present timeline, Wedge expresses his disagreement with the notion of being "lucky," referencing the events on Gus Talon and his inability to prevent the tragedy as evidence.

Continuity

Wedge Antilles himself made a reference to it in the tenth issue of the 2013 Star Wars comic series (Star Wars Volume 2: From the Ruins of Alderaan).

According to the title page of Star Wars Tales 23, the events of "Lucky" are set "approximately seven years before Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope," placing them in the year 7 BBY. However, this contradicts the story's internal timeline, which places the flashback events on Gus Talon six years before the Battle of Endor, corresponding to 2 BBY. The existence of the Rebel Alliance during the "Lucky" flashback also conflicts with the 7 BBY date, as it clashes with the established timeline for the Rebel Alliance's formation in 2 BBY.
