The Lulsla was a MC40a Light Calamari Cruiser utilized by the Rebel Alliance.
This particular vessel played a crucial part in the Rebel Alliance's leadership escaping from Hoth, by deploying starfighters to seize control of Outpost D-34, an Imperial checkpoint situated along the Rebels' planned escape route.
Once it was confirmed that the Lulsla was responsible for the attack and subsequent looting of the outpost, the Imperials devised a retaliatory plan to intercept the cruiser while it was being resupplied in the Bruanii sector. While standard Imperial procedure would have involved deploying Star Destroyers for direct ship-to-ship engagement, the Rebels had anticipated this tactic by establishing an extensive minefield composed of Type A and Type C mines.
Two hyperspace assaults were initiated against the Lulsla, originating from both the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Hammer and the Modified Frigate Fogger.
During the initial assault, Delta-class stormtrooper transports designated Sigma group and Omega were assigned the task of destroying the resupply containers using proton torpedoes launched from a safe distance outside the perimeter of the minefield. Two squadrons of Assault Gunboats, armed with concussion missiles, provided fighter escort.
As a primary cruiser in the Rebellion's fleet, the Lulsla carried a full contingent of advanced starfighters, including X-wings, A-wings, and B-wings. The Gunboats, under the command of Maarek Stele, largely neutralized the Mon Calamari Rebel cruiser's fighter defense and cleared a significant number of mines, although his pilots suffered substantial casualties due to reinforcements of A-wings and X-wings.
With the first wave successfully completing its objectives, the surviving attackers jumped to hyperspace. However, Stele examined several containers and determined that they contained Imperial equipment, a fact he later shared with the Prophets of the Dark Side. (It was later revealed that Admiral Harkov had been selling the equipment to the Rebellion.)
The Imperials immediately launched a follow-up attack. Transports Sigma and Omega were rearmed with heavy rockets and again were escorted by Assault Gunboats.
This caught the Lulsla at its most exposed point, as it was hemmed in by its own minefield, and reinforcements were unable to arrive in time. A small number of X-wings and Y-wings offered some resistance, but it was futile. The Imperials achieved their objective with minimal losses.
The officers serving on the Lulsla abandoned their doomed vessel and attempted to escape. However, their shuttles were quickly intercepted and disabled by Stele, and captured by stormtrooper transports.
