Lyco Pibex were small, docile beings populating areas throughout the galaxy. Known for their swift running abilities, these creatures were often kept as pets by spacers. Eventually, a pair of Lyco Pibex established a settlement within the Mos Eisley spaceport located on Tatooine, leading to clashes with the indigenous Jawa communities.
Lyco Pibex were diminutive, non-sentient organisms, standing approximately one meter tall. Their bipedal structure, featuring two legs, enabled them to achieve considerable speeds when running. They also possessed a pair of arms, which they used for manipulating and holding objects. The Lyco Pibex exhibited a reddish skin tone, and their nutritional needs included the consumption of metallic alloys.
Lyco Pibex could be found in many locations throughout the galaxy. They served as domesticated companions for interstellar spacers. At some point, two Lyco Pibex that had been brought to Mos Eisley on Tatooine managed to escape and establish a colony. Their habit of consuming the very metal alloys that the local Jawa scavengers sought to salvage resulted in direct conflict with the native population. As time passed, the Jawas became increasingly annoyed by the Lyco Pibex colony in Mos Eisley, even going so far as to use their ion blasters to frighten the creatures away.
The Lyco Pibex were the creation of Brendon Fraim, who participated in the "Design An Alien" contest hosted by the Star Wars Galaxy magazine. The competition was announced in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 3 (1995), inviting participants to design alien species based on the universe of the original Star Wars trilogy. Fraim, then 22 years old, had his submission published in the "16 years old and up" category of the competition, which was featured in Star Wars Galaxy Magazine 7 (1996). The Lyco Pibex entry secured second place in its division, following the Ubese Thorn-Back War Dragon. Leland Chee, the continuity editor, later verified that the published "Design an Alien" was considered canon. The Lyco Pibex have not appeared in any subsequent Star Wars productions.
