The Majestic-class heavy cruiser represented a compact, yet highly effective warship. It was a product of the New Class Modernization Program undertaken by the New Republic.
These vessels possessed a formidable array of weaponry, including 30 heavy turbolaser batteries, 20 laser cannons, 20 ion cannons, 8 concussion missile launchers, 4 tractor beam emitters, and over 20 antimissile octets. This armament allowed them to effectively engage both enemy capital ships and starfighters. The Majestic-class heavy cruisers were exceptionally resilient, with armor plating and shields comparable to those found on older Imperial-class Star Destroyers. This robust defense enabled them to close the distance with adversaries and engage in close-quarters combat. Similar to other New Class vessels, the Majestic featured advanced fire control systems, surpassing those of contemporary Imperial ships with similarly powerful heavy weaponry. This advanced targeting allowed the Majestic to achieve a hit rate at long range equivalent to that of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer at medium range, maintaining this advantage as long as it could maneuver to avoid the Imperial vessel.
These cruisers were outfitted with Class 1 hyperdrives, capable of achieving spin-up times of just 90 seconds. They accommodated a crew of 4,050, carried 640 troops, and had sufficient consumables to sustain operations for five months. The Majestic-class also had the capacity to carry five squadrons of starfighters, typically including X-wing and E-wing fighters for escort and screening roles, as well as K-wings for offensive strike missions.
Following established New Class design principles, the fundamental hull structure of the Majestic-class heavy cruiser was based on the Defender-class assault carrier.
The sole official depiction of the Majestic-class heavy cruiser appears in the RPG sourcebook Cracken's Threat Dossier. However, the visual representation bears little resemblance to the Defender-class carrier, despite the stated connection in the Black Fleet Crisis novels (the basis for Cracken's Threat Dossier) that the Majestic-class was built using the Defender's hull design. Consequently, many fans question the accuracy of this image as a true representation of the ship. Within the Black Fleet Crisis novels, ships belonging to this class are referred to as battlecruisers.
