Mak Luunim

A Muun male named Mak Luunim lived in the city of Pilaan on the planet Muunilinst. Besides commissioning art of himself, Luunim aided the Rebel Alliance by managing their clandestine financial records. Following the destruction of Alderaan by the Galactic Empire's initial Death Star, the Alliance experienced a significant loss of capital, necessitating the accounts Luunim oversaw.

Luunim's mission was to rendezvous with Rebels Princess Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker at his residence to transfer a datacard containing the access codes for the accounts. However, he perished in an airspeeder incident before the meeting could occur. Later, the Rebels discovered that Nal Kenuun, a notorious gambler to whom Luunim was in debt for credits, had orchestrated Luunim's demise.

Biography

Joining the Rebel Alliance

General Jan Dodonna arranged the meeting with Mak Luunim.

Living in the city of Pilaan on the planet Muunilinst, Mak Luunim was a Muun male. He passionately collected marble sculptures and paintings depicting himself, commissioning artisans from Muunilinst to create them, which led to substantial debt. Despite his financial woes, Luunim managed various financial accounts for the Rebel Alliance. In 0 ABY, soon after the destruction of the Galactic Empire's first Death Star superweapon, Alliance General Jan Dodonna planned a meeting between Luunim and fellow Rebels Princess Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker at the Muun's apartment in Pilaan. Luunim was to hand over a safeguarded datacard containing crucial account access codes the Alliance urgently required, as they had lost most of their funds when the Death Star destroyed Alderaan, Organa's homeworld.

However, an airspeeder accident, caused by a central turbine failure mid-flight, resulted in Luunim's death before he could meet the Rebels. Imperial stormtroopers under Nal Kenuun's orders orchestrated Luunim's demise, as Kenuun was a ruthless gambler to whom Luunim owed credits. When Organa and Skywalker, accompanied by smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca, who provided transportation to Muunilinst; and Tobin Elad, an Imperial assassin secretly among the Rebels, arrived at Luunim's apartment, Luunim's grieving employee greeted them.

The employee informed the Rebels of Luunim's passing. Before they could inquire further, six Imperial stormtroopers appeared and attempted to capture the Rebels. A brief skirmish ensued, with the Rebels defeating three stormtroopers and trapping the remaining ones inside Luunim's apartment, which featured a sophisticated security system. The Rebels escaped unharmed and sought refuge in a local cantina.

From a local bartender, they learned that Luunim had significant debts and that most residents of the city suspected his death was not accidental. Further questioning of the bartender revealed Luunim's debt to Kenuun. The Rebels inferred that Kenuun had raided Luunim's apartment for valuables, including the datacard. Shortly after, upon meeting Kenuun, the gambler confirmed their suspicions by admitting his involvement in Luunim's death.
