Nal Kenuun

title: Nal Kenuun

On the planet of [Muunilinst](/article/muunilinst/legends], in the city of Pilaan, lived a Muun male named Nal Kenuun. He amassed great wealth and power as a gambler, running high-stakes games and sponsoring Grunta, his own Podracer pilot, in illegal Podracing events.

Kenuun captured the Rebels, specifically Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Tobin Elad, in 0 ABY after they were responsible for killing Grunta. With a race on the horizon, Kenuun proposed a deal: he would give the Rebels a datacard taken from Mak Luunim, a Rebel contact he eliminated for failing to repay a debt, if one of them took Grunta's place in the competition. Skywalker agreed and ultimately won. After the Rebels received the datacard, Kenuun attempted to claim the Imperial bounties on Solo and Elad. However, when Organa threatened Urgiluu, Kenuun's beloved pet krayt dragon, Kenuun relented and allowed the Rebels to leave without further conflict.

Biography

Life on Muunilinst

A Muun male, Nal Kenuun made his home in the city of Pilaan on the planet Muunilinst. Kenuun's power and wealth meant that many were indebted to him, including several Imperial stormtroopers on the planet, whom he employed as his personal security force. Other Muuns feared incurring his wrath, as Kenuun was known to have those who offended him killed. When Mak Luunim, another Muun, could not repay his debt, Kenuun arranged his demise. Luunim died when his airspeeder's central turbine failed mid-flight, an act carried out by Kenuun's stormtroopers.

Muunilinst, Nal Kenuun's homeworld.

Luke Skywalker, the Rebel pilot, arrived on Muunilinst in 0 ABY with fellow Rebels Leia Organa, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Tobin Elad—secretly the Imperial assassin X-7, sent to eliminate Skywalker—seeking Luunim, a Rebel contact who managed some of their finances. However, Mak Luunim was already dead by the time Skywalker and the others arrived.

The Rebels learned that Kenuun had raided Luunim's apartment, taking everything valuable. They deduced that Kenuun possessed the datacard they needed to retrieve. This datacard held access codes to secret financial accounts essential for the Rebellion to replace funds lost after the destruction of Alderaan.

While seeking information on contacting Kenuun, the Rebels were approached by Grunta, a Dug Podracer pilot in Kenuun's service. Grunta offered to lead them to a high-stakes gambling game hosted by Kenuun in exchange for one hundred credits. However, Grunta betrayed the Rebels, leading them into an ambush by four Dugs on swoops armed with blasters who attempted to rob them. After a brief fight, the Rebels fought off the robbers, killing Grunta, only to be ambushed again by Kenuun's stormtroopers.

Muunilinst podrace

Kenuun had a homing droid following Grunta as a precaution due to the Dug's troublesome nature. This allowed Kenuun's stormtroopers to locate and capture the Rebels. They were taken to Kenuun's home, where they were restrained with stun cuffs in a makeshift prison before finally meeting Kenuun.

Luke Skywalker, who offered to be Nal Kenuun's podracing pilot.

Their captor asked why they wanted to meet him. Upon learning their reasons, Kenuun admitted to possessing Luunim's datacard. He offered to exchange it for one of them taking Grunta's place in an upcoming Podrace event. When the Rebels pointed out that Podracing was not suitable for a Human, Kenuun warned them about the consequences of failing to repay debts, subtly referencing Luunim's fate. Eventually, Skywalker volunteered and agreed to the proposition.

Kenuun provided Skywalker with Grunta's Podracer, a Collor Pondrat Plug-2 Behemoth. While Skywalker was testing the Podracer, one of its engines caught fire due to a defective [current filter](/article/current_filter], causing Skywalker to lose control. The craft crashed and exploded. Undeterred and determined to win, Skywalker convinced Kenuun to lend him another Podracer. Equally determined to win, Kenuun allowed Skywalker to choose another Podracer—a Keizar-Volvec KV9T9-B Wasp—from his extensive collection. After a competitive race, Skywalker won, defeating the other Podracer pilots sponsored by Kenuun's Muun rivals.

Betraying the Rebels

Princess Leia Organa, who threatened to harm Nal Kenuun's pet.

When Skywalker, Solo, and Elad returned to Kenuun's apartment to collect their reward, Kenuun kept his word and handed over the datacard. However, as they attempted to leave, Kenuun summoned his stormtroopers and tried to claim the Imperial bounties on Solo and Elad as compensation for the first Podracer Skywalker destroyed. A standoff ensued, with a stormtrooper aiming a blaster rifle at Solo, while Elad aimed one at Kenuun.

To break the stalemate, Elad offered himself to Kenuun in exchange for Solo's and Skywalker's safety. Kenuun agreed, but Organa suddenly appeared and proposed a new agreement: she threatened to harm Kenuun's pet krayt dragon, Urgiluu. Fearing damage to the valuable krayt dragon pearl inside Urgiluu's stomach, Kenuun allowed the Rebels to leave Muunilinst unharmed.

Personality and traits

Nal Kenuun, a typical Muun but taller and slimmer than most, was meticulous about financial matters. He considered it dishonorable to break one's word regarding financial agreements. True to his Muun heritage, Kenuun never missed opportunities for financial gain.

Kenuun was particular about his possessions, always demanding replacement or payment when they were destroyed. When Grunta, his Podracer pilot, was killed by Han Solo and the Rebels, Kenuun threatened to kill them unless someone replaced Grunta in the race, claiming Grunta as his property. After Luke Skywalker won the Podracing event, Kenuun honored his promise and handed over the datacard. Only after the exchange did he attempt to collect the Imperial bounty on Solo and Tobin Elad.

Kenuun was known for being cold-hearted and cruel, which made his attachment to his pet krayt dragon amusing to his Muun rivals, who mocked him behind his back. However, his rivals were unaware that Kenuun had no affection for the creature but was more interested in harvesting the valuable pearl inside its stomach.

Kenuun inspired fear in everyone. He arranged the deaths of others for reasons ranging from unpaid debts to simply angering him. According to Haari Ikreme Beeerd, a Podracing crewman befriended by Solo, someone once laughed at Kenuun upon learning of his devotion to his pet. In retaliation, the individual and their entire family were killed. However, Kenuun was careful to ensure no evidence ever linked him to the murders.

Skills and abilities

Nal Kenuun was highly analytical and considered all possible outcomes to advance his interests. As the most feared individual on the planet, Kenuun efficiently managed his organization's affairs, whether employing stormtroopers to eliminate rivals or selecting the best pilots to race for him.
