Mandellia, a planet situated within the Outer Rim Territories, functioned as a safe space for pirates during the initial years of the Great Galactic War. This conflict pitted the Galactic Republic against the reconstituted Sith Empire. Thousands of criminals populated this world until a day when a freighter, piloted by the relatively unknown smuggler Nok Drayen, entered orbit and issued a demand: the pirates must surrender, or die.
Upon the pirates' refusal, Drayen launched a single rocket towards their settlement. This warhead was filled with an Imperial nerve toxin that he had previously stolen from the Empire. The entire population, numbering around ten thousand criminals, perished in under a minute. This action, coupled with the wealth he plundered from the now-desolate world, rapidly transformed Drayen into one of the most affluent and feared crime lords in the underworld. Subsequently, he named a starship, the Mandellian Gambit, in reference to this event, and his daughter Risha Drayen born there.
The first mention of Mandellia occurred during conversations with the Smuggler companion, Risha Drayen, within Star Wars: The Old Republic. This video game was released by BioWare in 2011.
