The Masters' Retreat functioned as a Jedi Order sanctuary, situated on the planet of Tython. This enclave was established after the Republic's defeat during the Great Galactic War, when the reconstituted Sith Empire achieved victory, and it remained in use throughout the subsequent Cold War.
After the Jedi Order experienced the destruction of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant and subsequently relocated to Tython, their ancestral world, the Jedi High Council ordered that the Masters' Retreat be built. It was positioned on a ridge that provided a view of the Gnarls region, and it was situated northwest of the Jedi Temple. Jedi Masters utilized the retreat in conjunction with the Temple's academy, overseeing the training programs for the Order's students.
The retreat was a structure with multiple stories, perched on the side of a small, rocky mountain, and it extended over a lake. The base of the complex contained several offices and also featured two sizable landing pads, typically used by airspeeders coming from the Tythonian Gnarls. The majority of the facility's upper levels were located within a large, squat cupola.
