Tythonian Gnarls

The Tythonian Gnarls, often shortened to simply the Gnarls, represented a region on Tython. It was situated just to the north of the valley that housed the central hub of the Jedi Order: the Jedi Temple. This was during the period of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire.

History

The name Gnarls referred to a specific area of untamed wilderness located on Tython. In prior times, it had been the location of an old temple belonging to the Jedi Order, and numerous old stone bridges spanned the constant streams flowing through the terrain. Once the Jedi made their return to Tython after the Great Galactic War, the landscape had become densely overgrown with vegetation and populated by a variety of wild animals. Following the clearing of the land and the restoration of the ancient stone pathways, the Jedi established an outpost and several landing platforms on a ridge that looked down onto a sizable chasm.

This area served as a training location for Padawans and a place where Jedi could undertake their Trials of Knighthood. Four holoprojectors, strategically placed at cardinal directions across the terrain, held and displayed records of four of the Order's original founders. These figures included Jedi Masters such as Garon Jard and Rajivari. As the Jedi maintained their presence through the years, the indigenous Flesh Raiders began to encroach upon the Jedi's territories, leading to more frequent conflicts. Despite the fact that many Jedi Masters believed the added challenge was beneficial for their students, the Jedi High Council began to contemplate relocating the training grounds.
