A self-propelled chair, known as a mechno-chair, utilized four articulated legs for locomotion. During the Invasion of Naboo, Nute Gunray, who was the Viceroy of the Trade Federation, employed a mechno-chair to navigate Theed Royal Palace. Furthermore, Lott Dod, a Senator and the Trade Federation's delegate to the Galactic Republic's senate, maintained several mechno-chairs within his palace located on Cato Neimoidia. These chairs also provided mobility assistance in retirement facilities. Thomas Toov relied on a mechno-chair to enhance his movement capabilities when venturing outside of his stasis dome.
The debut of mechno-chairs occurred in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, released in 1999, which served as the initial movie in the Star Wars prequel trilogy.
