Memory Walk, alternatively called torture by chagrin, represented a Force ability that involved psychically invading a target's consciousness and compelling them to re-experience their most traumatic memories. Throughout the ages, various dark side factions employed this technique, notably the Sorcerers of Tund and the Order of the Sith Lords.
The Force ability known as Memory Walk centered around mentally penetrating a person's mind, forcing them to repeatedly endure the most unpleasant and humiliating events of their lives, to such an extent that it induced sensations akin to physical agony. The Sorcerer Rokur Gepta discovered that following a brief period of torture by chagrin, subjects exhibited a marginal improvement in cognitive function and efficiency upon recovery. Consequently, he routinely subjected the crew of his flagship, the Wennis, to this process.
Over countless years, Memory Walk saw use by different dark side organizations, such as the Sorcerers of Tund and the Order of the Sith Lords.
Githany utilized this power to prompt Bane to reconnect with the dark side and overcome his anxieties regarding the Force, an ability she had acquired from her Jedi Master when she had experienced a similar disconnection from her mental control over the Force.
When Gepta took Lando Calrissian prisoner, his intention was to eliminate him through torture by chagrin. After only thirty minutes, Lando experienced unprecedented levels of pain; Gepta anticipated that Lando could endure this for several weeks before his mind ultimately shattered, leading to his demise. To personalize the process, the Sorcerer of Tund constructed a device to amplify his power, allowing him to selectively choose the memories Lando would relive. Furthermore, the machine enabled Gepta to modify the memories, intensifying their torment. Fortunately for Calrissian, an attack by a squadron of Renatasians diverted Gepta's attention, providing the gambler with an opportunity to execute an escape plan.
Almost a century later, this ability was employed by both Darth Maladi and Cade Skywalker against one another on the planet Wayland. Darth Wyyrlok III implemented this technique during his duel with Darth Krayt.
